Open Call - Digital Editions
We are inviting submissions for 6 artists to have new work developed into a digital form, to be presented on the London Bronze Editions Website.
You do not need any prior 3D modelling experience to apply. If you are selected, our technicians will work with you, either by 3D scanning your work or sculpting it digitally from reference material.
It is the intention that the final digital models are representative of a future cast bronze artwork. It is critical that the proposal acknowledges this process & relationship.
KEY INFO
Eligibility: Open to all UK-based artists, designers & creatives at any stage of their career.
Cost: There is no application fee.
Proposals can be sent in one of two ways:
Option 1: Existing artwork that will be 3D scanned. The artist will be responsible for delivering the work to the foundry in Farnham, Surrey, UK for scanning. Please bear this in mind in view of weight, dimensions & materials. Please send up to 6 clear, high-quality photographs of the work from different angles.
Option 2: As drawings or mock-ups that will then be digitally sculpted to make a 3D printable object through collaboration with our technicians. Please provide as much visual detail as possible in your proposal images to clearly communicate your idea.
We’re looking for new work that has never been cast in metal before.
Previously selected artists for Digital Editions include Jamie Fitzpatrick, Merissa Hylton, Sarah Staton & Holly Graham.

FAQ
What is 3D scanning?
3D scanning is the process of analyzing a real-world object or environment to collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance (e.g. colour). The collected data can then be used to construct digital 3D models. There are multiple methods available, including Laser 3D Scanning, Photogrammetry, and Structured Light Scanning. The choice of which 3D scanning technique we will use is dependent on your object/idea.
How does sculpting digitally work?
Digital sculpting, also known as sculpt modeling or 3D sculpting, is the use of software that offers tools to push, pull, smooth, grab, pinch or otherwise manipulate a digital object as if it were made of a real-life substance such as clay. Working with you, our technicians will create 3D versions of your reference images that can be manipulated and refined.
What’s a render?
A render refers to the application of algorithms to a digital image file which convert the image information within the file into a viewable format on a viewing device - ensuring the object is seen in a highly finished, accessible way & often highly photorealistic. We are able to match in detail the finishes available in the foundry, allowing the render to demonstrate how the object will look when it is cast in metal.
How is the final work cast & made?
Once complete, the digital model is converted to a 3D-printable file that can then be moulded & cast in bronze.
